The Longing

At the center of our lives lies a fiery energy, a perpetual disquiet, a lingering loneliness, an ache for something we can never quite name. It a holy longing and it's been placed there by our Creator. Join us in this Advent Season as we learn what it means to follow Jesus well by allowing Him to tend the fire He created within us.

The Longing | Nov 27, 2022

This week, Pastor Rob kicked off our Advent season by walking us through Mark 7:1-23. Pastor Rob reminded us of the truth that human traditions are not God’s commands. When Jesus encountered the Pharisees, they were focused on outside actions, looking pious and holy. But Jesus knows what is in your heart and desires a deep relationship with you. Within your heart is the root of all actions, attitudes, and sins. His desire for you is not a behavior change that looks good on the outside, but an internal transformational change that draws you closer to Him.

We invite you to spend time with the Father and seek what He has to offer. Questions you can ask are:

Father, what areas of my life are reflecting a need for internal transformation?
Is there a next step you’d like me to take? Will you reveal it to me?

The Longing | Dec 4, 2022

This morning, Pastor Dale unpacked a truth that is at the very core of who we are. At the center of our lives lies a fiery energy, a perpetual disquiet, a lingering loneliness, an ache for something we can never quite name. It a holy longing and it's been placed there by our Creator. It is meant to be tended to by Jesus, but we often allow other things to give it life, things that don't lead to peace or rest.

Following Jesus is about what we do with that desire he placed within us. What we do with our breath, our lives, handling the hope and pain, how we handle the unrest inside of us, how we channel the passion within us, how we channel the longing with us...all informed by the way and the life of Jesus.

We invite you to spend time with the Father and seek his revelation on what is fueling the fire he placed inside you. Questions you can ask:

Father, what is fueling the fire you've placed within me? Are there areas I've allowed the enemy to tend the fire?
What does it look like for me to allow Jesus to tend the fire?
Is there an invitation you have for me to take a next step, to take action for you? Will you reveal it to me?

The Longing | Dec 11, 2022

Pastor Dale continued our advent series on the holy longing, the fiery energy of God that burns inside each of us. This morning we looked at the difference between a “Theist” and an ‘Incarnate Jesus Follower”. A theist believes in a God in heaven. An “Incarnate Jesus Follower” believes in a God in heaven who is also physically present on this earth inside of human beings. The theist believes God is transcendent and present only as some vague being. The “Incarnate Jesus Follower” believes God is also transcendent and has a physical body on earth that can be seen, heard, felt, tasted, and smelled. What this means for us in our daily lives, is that as incarnate followers of Jesus, we have an active role to play in following Jesus. It is partnering with God in prayer and taking action, to bring his presence to those around us. When we do this, when we let Jesus tend the fire within us, when we shape our lives and our bodies in the way Jesus shaped his, we do our part to carry the incarnation forward.

We invite you to spend time with the Father and seek his revelation on one question: Father, how can I carry the incarnation forward this week?

The Longing | Dec 18, 2022

This morning Pastor Dale unpacked the power and beauty in advent. While it's seen as a time of peace and hope, it is also a blatant resistance to something else. The Advent season confronts the cynical corrosion of the heart with the insistence that God has not given up and has certainly not abandoned the world. It shows us that hope is real and something good is coming.

When a longing or a burden comes upon us, it can still be a joyful, hopeful, peace-filled time. We can value someone by looking straight into their eyes. We can care by opening our arms and hands towards them. We can bring healing by speaking words of joy, hope, and peace toward others. That is how we direct the fire God created within us, incarnationally towards others.

We invite you to spend time with the Father and seek his revelation on one question: Father, who are you putting on my heart to reach out to?
