Thank you so much for signing up to host a missional meal! Our hope for these meals is for people from our church to enjoy a meal together, to be encouraged by one another, share stories, pray for each other, and experience what Christian community can be about. We believe this is a significant opportunity for our church to welcome one another and foster an environment of belonging and being the church. Below you'll find important information for you as the host of the meal. Please be sure to read through and let us know if you have any questions!
Host Overview
Missional meals are expected to be around 90 minutes. The flow of a meal could look like:
• Introductions
• Sit down at the table for meal
• The host or a guest prays a blessing over the meal
• Share stories. A few questions you could ask to start the conversation:
How long have you lived in the Bay Area?
What’s something new you want to do/try this year?
What are some fun things you like to do in your free time?
What's your favorite trip you've ever been on?
How has God surprised you since the start of 2024?
• Pray at end of meal. This could begin with the host asking if anyone has any prayer requests. The hope is that each person will have the opportunity to be prayed over.
Host Expectations
• As host, we ask that you provide the main portion of the meal, a protein or pasta for those attending.
• We ask that you email those attending your meal 7-10 days before the meal date with the date, location, and time of the event. Please copy info@calvarylg.com on the email to attendees.
• In the email to attendees, we ask that you welcome the attendees, share with them the food you will be serving, inquire about any food allergies, provide them with the question you’ll be asking at dinner and let them know you’ll be praying together, and lastly, a recommendation of what you would like them to bring. A sample email you can use as inspiration or as a template can be found here.
• Please be sure to include if you have pets, how many, as well as if you have stairs, and any other information that may be helpful to your guests. Please also include any relevant information needed such as where to park, if a key code is needed to get through a gate, etc..
• We ask that no alcohol be served and for the event to be non-smoking, including vaping.
